New beginnings

This feels just like when I first started as an English teacher. I was nineteen or twenty years old and in my third year of the English Studies degree. All I had been learning was Chaucer, Chomsky, phonetic transcription… nothing to do with teaching English as such. And then I got offered a job as English teacher for kids (6 to 10-year-olds).

How would they behave? Could I even do it? I nearly had a heart attack on my way to work the first day (which was all for nothing, really, because everything went well). I just needed to work on a few things – self-confidence, patience, and to not be afraid to ask my colleagues for ideas.

New beginnings are exciting and terrifying at the same time, but then again, what is life without a bit of a thrill? Just like I did when I began teaching English, with a bit of courage and dedication, I think this will be a great experience. Everyone here in the Master’s degree is also really (really) nice, which kind of helps a lot. I’m excited to see where we end up, how our blogs and websites look, and overall, where this experience will lead us.
